The beloved crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh season, announced by the BBC.

An upcoming six-part series created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the production team.

The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."

The last series wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only arrived this week.

New Challenges for The Team

Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to combat corruption within the law enforcement.

Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case to date."

New Character and Complex Case

An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a offender.

Yet, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, the teaser hinted.

In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."

"It's an honor to have had so many fans track the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new installment."

Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."

Actor Responses

Martin Compston described being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".

"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."

"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.

Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is back! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"

The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."

"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."

Show History

Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the last decade, attracting notable actors such as Stephen Graham.

The BBC has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.

The conclusion of series six drew the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no plans for further series.

However, the network announced on this week that a new season is now being produced.
